How to Overclock RAM | Best Settings to Boost Performance in 4 Steps

RAM which is known as Random Access Memory and from childhood we are taught about this part of computer and thus everyone has a brief knowledge about it. But the actual fact is that only 1 in every 100 people exactly knows the structure of a RAM and that RAM performance can be changed by overclocking too. RAM often comes with a lower speed after being manufactured, but one can easily trigger its speed and performance by some BIOS settings with some little bit of testing too.


RAM has a bit of complex process than the CPU and GPU overclocking, where one needs to follow a series of sequential steps to achieve an overclocked performance. But before doing this one should have a detailed knowledge about the peripherals running inside the pc which handles all cache, data and also the frame rate.

The speed of RAM is usually measured in (MHz)and for safe use always overclock a RAM having memory console of DDR4 type. DDR stock usually have a speed of 2133 MHz or 2400 MHz, though the speed is actually the half of the given description since it is the double data rate (DDR).

If the default RAM speed is 2400 MHz, then there exists a kit with an XMP profile already enabled which can increase the speed further, that is a sanctioned f, popularly called as factory overclocking.

Download the required software


First download the software named DRAM CALCULATER FOR RYZEN from here.

Open the tool


Open the tool and enter your version as shown

Load the preset values

Press the purple “R – XMP” button to load the kits present in XMP profile.
After this look at the details on main and click on calculate safe.
The safe settings will always work and no issues will be found after overlocking the RAM.

Examine the changes

One can also go with the faster timing, but it may not be stable at stock voltage and may create an issue which one may not have expected. Above the overview

Reboot the system

Turn off the pc and re-open the pc by booting it back or open UEFI firmware setup, one will have to press del or the default key provided at the motherboard, and one will get instructions on any corner of the display.

Launch XMP profile

Open the memory section and load the XMP profile to start. Make sure to fill the frequencies which you want, you can likely change the frequencies without changing the timing which is entirely dependent upon the user.

Set the timing

If you want to change your timing them you will find a section naming “timing control”, just fill the number which you have noted down from the DRAM calculator (important for intel platform).

Adjust accordingly

So, one will get some primary timings like
tCL – primary CAS latency
tRCDRD – RAS to CAS read delay
tRCDWR – RAS to CAS write delay
tRP – RAS Precharge TIME (PRE)
tRAS – RAS Active time (ACT)
• For intel platform the user will have to enter the primary thing at least once leaving the rest.
• Once the user is done with the timing’s setup, go to find the voltage controller, one will have to enter the SOC voltage which powers the memory controller on the CPU.
• Save the settings and exit and reboot it thus experiencing a new performance from the RAM.



See if this happens then the user may have made some mistakes with the entry of the timings, voltage or others. Try rebooting the system again in the safe mode. If this too doesn’t work the just open the manual provided with the peripheral and have a look at the reset settings of CMOS manually. This usually happens either because of the battery of the motherboard which one can remove or reset it by the help of panel headers. You will need some simple accessories like screw driver to fix this completely and try touching two pins to each other with the screw driver
